Announced port conflicts in Sweden, starting on 21 May 2025
Tom Ulrik Torgersbråten * 20. may 2025
Widespread labor conflicts have been announced in Swedish ports, which may affect cargo traffic to and from Scandinavia in the coming weeks. Two trade unions have announced actions that include strikes, blockades, and restrictions on overtime and new hiring.
Timeline of the announced actions:
- May 21, 12:00–18:00: Six-hour strike in all Swedish ports.
- May 22, 09:00 – May 26, 22:30: Full strike in all ports.
- From May 30 to June 15: Gradual strikes at selected port companies.
These actions may lead to significant delays and capacity challenges, particularly in ports such as Gothenburg, Helsingborg, Gävle, Norrköping, and Norvik. Cargo flows to and from the United Kingdom, the Benelux countries, France, Spain, and Portugal are especially vulnerable to disruptions.
